Humanistic Psychotherapy & MCBT in Ketamine-Assisted Therapy

Therapeutic Approach: Integrated Model of Humanistic Psychotherapy, MCBT and KAP

This model integrates Humanistic Psychology’s relational depth with the structure of mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MCBT), within the enhanced neuroplastic window created by Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP).

Humanistic psychotherapy provides the therapeutic stance: empathy, authenticity, unconditional, positive regard, and respect for the client’s autonomy. The Psychotherapist acts as a facilitator of the client’s inherent capacity for growth and alignment with core values.

MCBT operationalize is these insights through structured interventions:

  1. Mindfulness – Enhancing present-moment, awareness during an after KAP.
  2. Cognitive Restructuring – Identifying and reframing maladaptive beliefs.
  3. Behavioral Activation – Engaging clients in value-consistent actions.
  4. Integration – Consolidating new patterns into daily routine routines.

Ketamine’s roll is to temporarily disrupt entrenched neural pathways, and enhanced receptivity to new learning. Within this window, MCBT interventions are more readily internalized.

The eight dimensions of wellness framework ensures that change is addressed holistically, encompassing, emotional, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, occupational, environmental, and financial aspects of life. This multidimensional approach promotes systemic improvement, not only for the client, but for the broader family system, enhancing resilience, and adaptive functioning across relational contexts.
